Facilities Renovations Update: Hosting and Cooking Help Needed
We’re excited to announce a newly formed partnership between Upper Room and Riverside Presbyterian Church in Sterling, VA, a multi-ethnic church serving both English-speaking and Spanish-speaking communities. Riverside’s ministry among the day laborer community has led them to starting a construction company that provides employment, job training, and discipleship for men who otherwise have difficulty finding sustainable work. When the church learned of our need to renovate, they offered to come do a work weekend as a ‘mission trip’ experience for the group. We’re continuing to work out the details, and are looking for volunteers to help with providing hosting and meals for the group. If you’d like to participate, can you please reply to this email and let us know…
1. How many people you could provide overnight housing for the weekend of Nov 7-9.
2. Whether you can help provide meals that weekend.
Please note that the group coming is entirely male, and so hosting households should have at least what male host. Everyone is encouraged to help with providing food, though.
Please join us in giving thanks to God for this new opportunity! And please pray for God’s direction as we pursue an ongoing partnership between our churches.
Upper Room Men’s Group
October 29 @ 8pm | Mike and Marc’s House
This gathering is for the men of Upper Room to have fellowship with each other, and on a deeper level, could turn into a regular gathering where iron sharpens iron and where the men of the church can support each other in striving to live in the fullness of life Christ intends for us. If you’d like more details about this group, or if you have question, email Chris.
Discipleship Small Groups
Check the Upper Room Calendar for Times and Locations.
We worship together on Sundays with the expectation that God speaks to us and works in our hearts. In an effort to grow in carry God’s work among us on Sundays into the rest of the week, and to prepare us to enter into worship more deeply, the Upper Room’s Elders have launched a set of discipleship groups. Each week, the groups will respond to questions based on the previousSunday’s sermon, and our current liturgy. Groups are meeting at four different times and locations, and you don’t need to commit to the same group each week.
Wednesday @ 7pm at Evan’s House. For more info contact Evan Sheppard
All Saints Day Celebration and Feast
Saturday, November 1 @ 5pm | Mike and Marc’s House (1720 Nevada St. Swissvale, PA 15218
All Saints Day happens every year on November 1. It’s a day in which the church remembers and give thanks for the holy women and men whose faithfulness to Jesus inspires our faithfulness. They may be people we have known personally, or historic figures we’ve never met face to face, but look forward to meeting in the new Jerusalem. We’ll celebrate All Saints Day by having a potluck dinner together at Mike and Marc’s house followed by a special worship service. For the worship service, we ask everyone to bring with them a “relic”; an item that represents a person who helped make you the Christian that you are today. It may be a meaningful object representing a relative, friend or mentor, a book that’s influenced you, a picture of someone who inspired you… The only limit is your imagination! Our worship service will include a time of sharing together about the ‘relics’ we’ve brought.
Host an International Student This Thanksgiving
Deadline to Signup is November 17
Our mission partners at PRISM are off to an exciting start this fall, with great attendance at their regular meetings of Open House, trips and weekend hostings. One of the students’ most memorable times are those that they get to spend in Americans’ homes for holidays! Hospitality speaks volumes. With that said, please consider hosting an international student in your home this Thanksgiving.
