Holy Week at The Upper Room

By | April 15, 2014

Join us in celebrating the passion and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ with Upper Room this Holy Week:

Maundy Thursday – April 17, 7pm @ 5828 Forward Ave.
Maundy Thursday is the day the Church remembers Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples. Our service will focus on the person of Judas, and will feature a dramatic monologue written by Matt Morris. The highlight of the service will be our celebration of the Eucharist.

Good Friday Stations of the Cross – April 18, 10am-7pm @ The Union Project (Corner of Stanton and Negley Aves.)
Our ministry partners at the Open Door invite you The Stations of the Cross at the Union Project. Take some time on Good Friday to reflect on the crucifixion of Jesus with the help of local artists. The gallery is open for one day, and is free and open to the public.

Good Friday Liturgy of Shadows – April 18 @ 8pm | 5828 Forward Ave.
Our Good Friday Liturgy of Shadows is an opportunity to remember Christ’s crucifixion when the sun was covered and it became dark. Come worship by candlelight in a service that will include the passion narrative read from John’s gospel, singing, and the “solemn reproaches of the cross.”

Easter Vigil (pt. 1) – Saturday, April 19 @ 8pm | 5828 Forward Ave.
Easter Sunday commemorates the first appearance of the resurrected Jesus to Mary Magdalene and the other disciples at sunrise. Easter Vigil on Saturday night commemorates when the resurrection actually happened, witnessed primarily by angels sometime in the night. The service features a series of Old Testament readings that foreshadow the resurrection and the Christian sacrament of Baptism.

Easter Sunrise (Vigil pt. 2) – April 20 @ Dawn 6:05am | Frick Park Blue Slide Entrance (enter at corner of Beechwood and Nicholson; weather permitting)
Mary Magdalene and the other women were so devoted to Jesus that they got up while it was still dark to honor his body at the tomb. The Easter Sunrise service is an opportunity to express our devotion through the same practice. We’ll gather at Dawn, while it is still dark, in Frick Park, to worship and to encounter the risen Jesus through remembering our baptism.

Easter Sunday Worship – Flower Potluck and Nursing Home Visit | Sunday, April 21 @ 11amĀ 5828 Forward Ave.
What would Easter Sunday worship be without a room full of flowers? Help us decorate our worship space by bringing an arrangement, pot, or bouquet of flowers to church with you on Easter Sunday. Because we want our offerings to bless others, also plan on joining us in delivering the flowers to residents in a local nursing home after the service. If you’d like to help with delivering flowers to the nursing home residents, please emailĀ church@pghupperroom.com.
