Preparing for Pentecost: “Call for Artists”

By | June 6, 2011

This coming Sunday, June 12th, is Pentecost. It’s the day the church celebrates the Holy Spirit’s coming upon Jesus’ first disciples and the Spirit’s continued presence with us today. It’s a special day for Upper Room because our church name comes in part from the Pentecost story – Church tradition is that the disciples were in an “upper room” when the Holy Spirit came, and we want to be empowered by the Spirit in the same way.

We’ll be celebrating Pentecost this year by celebrating all of the creative gifts God has given our community. So, we’re looking for people to share something creative – artwork, poetry, music, stories, puppet shows, popsicle art, finger paintings – if you can create it, we want to you share it. Our “theme verse” for the day will be Psalm 104:30 – “When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth.” What you share could be based on the theme verse, on the story of Pentecost in Acts 2, or simply be a testimony to how you’ve seen the Spirit at work in your life. So that we can be prepared to accommodate everyone, please let us know if you plan to share by email
